Nevada Website Design has been receiving emails, and regular mail, from various companies trying to “fool” us with a bogus invoice for an amount 4 times that of the regular price of domain registration. Although these emails usually end up in our junk folder, sometimes they get through to our inbox…and our regular mailbox in letter form.

They scan the internet for domains that are 60 days or less from registration renewal time, and make you think you have to buy from them. As you can see, the price of this domain, which should be no more than $20.00 is priced at 64.00 for 1 year.

IF you get an email like this, or a letter in the mail that looks like it’s from a reputable company or not – remember to check where your domain is registered. You can go to a lookup site like https://www.whois.com/whois type in your domain, and click the magnifying glass icon to search. The result will show where the domain is registered….and that is where you should renew your domain. Some providers will have you on auto renewal, but it is a good idea to check the pricing.

And, for example, if you purchase your domain from GoDaddy, HostGator, or any reputable online provider, you can be assured emails from companies that don’t match are bogus…they are just trying to steal your money.
