Here’s a short, but useful article I just read on Search Engine Land
that sheds some light on what to do with alternate domains – should you buy other domains to point to your site, or should you create separate websites or landing pages using those domains?
This subject isn’t something new, but after reading the article, I feel a bit more confident in all those other domains I purchased and keep renewing.
To me, it does make sense to pick the right domains – those that make marketing sense….especially when creating a campaign for PPC or for selling particular products or services.
I still believe that domains that are a combination of a product, service or keyword along with a particular location will work well if a content-rich website is created on that domain.
But then there is a question of “should I use a domain, or should I create a page that has a filename with product, service and keyword or location?
The article doesn’t discuss the use of filenames, but in my experience, a page that has a topic related to the main domain works well as long as the filename is specific.
I personally don’t think pointing a domain to a primary domain is not as effective compared to creating a totally independent website or landing page with that domain.
